The Department of Veterinary Microbiology is dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, diagnostics, and extension activities in the field of animal infectious diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, mycoplasma, and other microorganisms. The primary objective of the department is to impart quality education and practical training to undergraduate and postgraduate students in Veterinary Bacteriology, Virology, Immunology, and Molecular Diagnostics. The department actively undertakes research on the epidemiology, diagnosis, prevention, and control of economically important animal diseases using conventional and advanced molecular techniques. It also provides laboratory diagnostic services, vaccine quality evaluation, and technical consultancy to veterinarians, livestock farmers, and government agencies. Through continuing education programmes, hands-on training, workshops, and extension activities, the department contributes significantly to disease surveillance, biosecurity, zoonoses awareness, and the promotion of animal health, public health, and sustainable livestock production.
