COVAS, Udgir - MAFSU Sub-Centre

In order to gear up the development of livestock sector of Marathwada region and to maintain as well as propagate pure germplasm of the local livestock breeds, the Government has established Sub-centre at Udgir in the campus of Veterinary College on 31st March 2003.

Poultry Research and Training Centre.
Fodder Development and Research centre.
Establishment of Veterinary Science Training Centre.

To undertake research and extension activities in the livestock sector.

Facilites/Infrastructure Available

Well maintained Marathwadi Buffalo, Deoni Cattle and Osmanabadi Goat units.
Loose housing shades for different age groups of livestock.
Fodder Cafeteria for demonstartion of different fodder varieties such as BHN-11, BNH-10, DHN-6, Super Napier, Maize, Multicut & Mega sweet Jowar, Dasharath Grass, Shewari, Moringa, Subabul, Mulberry etc.
Integrated farming unit of goat and desi poultry birds.
Backyard Poultry Demonstration Unit with Grampriya, Srinidhi, Kadaknath, Vanraja breeds.
Sub-Centre has well equipped research laboratory.
Large scale sillage prodcution unit.
Well equipped farmers training centre with residential facilites.

Activities Undertaken/ Services Provided

Research: Sub-centre provides research support to various extramural and intramural research projects.
Training: Provides trainings for farmers/ livestock owners, rural women’s and youths.
Services: Provides Deoni cattle and Marathwadi buffalo calves as well as Osmanabadi goat bucks to farmers.
Provides fodder stumps of Napier grass to farmers.
