COLLEGE OF VETERINARY AND ANIMAL SCIENCES, UDGIR was established in the year 1987 vide Maharashtra Government Resolution No. MKV-1086/CR-128-A dated 17^th September 1987, under Marathwada Agricultural University, Parbhani.

The Maharashtra Animal & Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU) was formally notified on 17^th November, 2000 and was established under the Maharashtra State Act No. 1998 (MAH.XVII of 1998) on 3^rd December, 2000 with its headquarter at Nagpur. After the establishment of Maharashtra Animal & Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU), Nagpur, the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Udgir was transferred to MAFSU, Nagpur as a constituent college.

Along with its historical background, Udgir is well known as the home tract of renowned Deoni Cattle Breed and Marathwadi Buffalo Breed and the outskirts are known for Red Kandhari Cattle Breed, Osmanabadi Goat Breed and Deccani Sheep.

Being enriched by the limited but assured rainfall and rich grassland pastures, the outskirts of Udgir are well known for the rearing of Red Kandhari Cattle, Osmanabadi Goats and Deccani Sheep. These breeds are known for adaptability to the semi-arid conditions and scarcities of drought prone profile of this area as well as are known for their resistance.

Over the years, the college has developed its infrastructure, with three phase building, state of art well-equipped laboratories, veterinary clinical complex, animal disease diagnosis facilities, poultry units and livestock farm for undergraduate (B.V.Sc & A.H.) and postgraduate (M.V.Sc & Ph.D) teaching as well as for research. The campus also has various student centric amenities such as hostels, gymnasium, NSS unit, library, canteen, internet, sports ground and computer labs. The campus is located about 3.5 kms away from the udgir city, but well connected by road and railway. The college campus is further enriched by establishment of UNIVERSITY SUB-CENTRE mainly for the research and extension activities related local and regional breeds.
